"Outdated" THEMATIC FORUM

 

Welcome to our evidence forum, where we'll explore and discuss things from the past that are now considered outdated. Let's relive the past and learn about how the world has changed!

Make an initial post where you introduce an obsolete technology, style or custom. Write from 120 to 160 words and to include these language points several times:

• Use simple past affirmative and negative forms with "was" or "were."
• Employ simple past structures with both regular and irregular verbs.
• Include stances of "used to"for past habits, states, or experiences.
• Use connectors and expressions to enhance your text.

For your second entry you react to a post made by a selected learner with your  opinion as AUDIO, remember to include these points:

• Discuss leisure time, or fun activities in the past related to the topic.
• Make an information question to know more about the subject.
• Make a yes/no question to ask for confirmation or clarification.

I encourage you to share your own experiences and memories about things that used to be commonplace but now are in the past. Join the discussion and discover how the world has changed over time! These questions can help you:

• Do you remember any old technology that is no longer in use?
• Mention some fashion styles, haircuts, or accessories that used to be popular but are now considered outdated.
• What leisure activities did you use to do that are now considered obsolete?

First Entry Example:

I remember the excitement of renting VHS movies at the rental store. Going to a video rental store was an event in itself. Rows upon rows of VHS tapes lined in the shelves, each containing a story waiting to be watched. People used to read the back of the cases to choose a movie, they debated with friends and sometimes we even had a double-feature night. I used to anticipate the thrill of picking a movie and bringing it home for a movie night. Jumping ahead to today's streaming services, the idea of going to a store to rent a movie might seem like something from a long time ago. It's a way to remember the past and think about how the way we enjoy movies has really changed a lot.

Second Entry Example:

Hey there! Your post about renting VHS movies really brought back memories.I totally agree, going to the rental store was so exciting. I used to spend ages picking out the perfect movie and then having a movie night with friends. It was a blast! I'm curious, what was your favorite genre to rent? Did you also have those late-night double-feature movie marathons? And speaking of movies, did you ever have a favorite VHS tape that you watched over and over?.

1. Create a post: Use the "Present Perfect" tense to describe your experiences with the current transportation situation in your city and propose improvements for the new system.

Hey everyone! I've been thinking a lot about how we can make transportation better in Bogotá. I've observed the current transportation system for a while. I've seen crowded buses and long waits at stations just recently. I have analyzed those experiences and reflected about what could be done to improve the situation. I have thought that maybe implementing more efficient routes and adding more buses during peak hours could make a big difference. I haven't experienced changes in the system still. What are your thoughts on this? Have you noticed improvements ever before? 

Second Entry Example:

Hey there! I just listened to your post about improving transportation in Bogotá, and I totally agree! The long waiting times can be really frustrating. Your idea of adding more buses during peak hours is spot on!  I also think improving the signage at stations would help a lot. EDW4 "Heroes" Thematic FORUM

"Heroes" THEMATIC FORUM

 

Dear learners,

In this activity, you will demonstrate your knowledge of the second learning unit (Ev02) by discussing a historical figure you admire and consider a hero.

You need to make two entres: first, create your own post introducing your chosen hero. Then, respond to a selected post by commenting on their chosen hero. Please make sure to read all the previous post to avoid introducing a hero that has already been mentioned. 

For your initial post, include the following:

• Start by greeting the group and mentioning the hero's name, their origin and the general time period they lived in.
• Describe qualities attributed to your hero and their most important achievements using past tense with regular and irregular verbs.
• Mention some things that your hero didn't do or achieve during their lifetime.

After that, you will react to the heroes intruduced by asking questions. You can ask yes/no or Wh-questions in audio format using vocaroo links or mp3 files.

For your second participation, follow these guidelines:

• Create at least three questions addressed  to one or several classmates.
• Your questions should help you understand why they chose their hero and also help you learn more about that hero.

Hi everyone! I want to share my hero with you. His name is Leonardo da Vinci, and he was an Italian genius who lived during the 16th century. Leonardo was amazing at painting, inventing and science. He made famous paintings like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

One great thing about Leonardo is that he did many interesting experiments. He learned about bodies, machines and even wanted people to fly! But even though he was super talented, he didn't finish some of his big ideas, for exxample his large bronze horse sculpture.

I am excited to hear about your heroes too! Tell me what makes them special, and if you have any questions about Leonardo, ask away!

¡Exploremos el mundo de los pueblos y las ciudades! Presenta un pueblo, o ciudad pequeña con su nombre y ubicación EN INGLÉS (región o país). Hi everyone, I'm talking about Jardín, a charming spot in Antioquia, Colombia, about 134 kilometres from Medellín. It is quite touristy, there are many restaurants and small shops near the central square. There are several hotels and eateries on the main avenue, but the most interesting places are outside town, you see many hikers around the amazing landscapes. ¡Descubre muchos barrios y conecta con tus compañeros! En este foro vamos a explorar diferentes barrios y comunidades en Colombia y el mundo. Presenta tu barrio elegido EN INGLÉS con una desripción detallada que incluya:

• Nombre y ubicación ¿Dónde se encuentra? ¿En qué ciudad o país?
• Características Principales ¿Es tranquilo, ruidoso, moderno?
• Lugares de interés ¿Qué puedes encontrar allí? (Parques, tiendas...)
• Vocabulario específico preposiciones de lugar y adjetivos descriptivos.

Para la segunda parte puedes usar información imaginaria. Describe tu espacio personal, (casa o apartamento), con su distribución y características, (Cómo son las habitaciones? ¿Qué hay en cada una?), y su ubicación (¿Dónde está ubicada tu casa? ¿Qué hay cerca?).
